Since the pandemic started, many people have found themselves remaining unwell following their COVID-19 infection. They are then often diagnosed with "long COVID", "post-COVID-19 syndrome", "post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC)" or sometimes described as "long-haul COVID".
The problem is that people may be experiencing different conditions with illness following COVID19 infection, so we don't believe that the term is scientific or helpful.
Many people experience illness that appears identical to Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Fibromyalgia or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). However, some people have different symptoms due to organ damage to lungs, kidneys, heart or other organs. They may also experience other symptoms such as purple toes and so on.
Hence we don't feel it makes sense to lump all patients into one diagnosis of 'long-covid'. We encourage patients to work with their doctors to make an appropriate diagnosis and seek appropriate treatments.
